Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my children!  How are you?  The weather outside is cool enough to be conducive to the joy of gardening, and whatever else you do outside.  Indoors it’s a little warmer and routine chores can be draining.  I drink plenty of fluids when I do housework.  Not all of them are water.  Ahem.

First, my condolences to the woman who lost a daughter in a car crash near Dodge and Main.  The mother was critically hurt and I assume will take a long time to heal.  I have heard that no loss is as painful as the loss of a child, no matter what age.

Our proud and powerful Green Bay Packers stumbled in their opening game against the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Seattle Seahawks.  Oh well, at least the pressure is off for a perfect season.  Next, we’ll host the New York Jets [thanks for the correction THB] on Sunday, Sept 14, at 3:25 PM.  CBS is broadcasting the game.  It’s the Packers’ home opener.  The fans expect great things.  Give them to us.

In the Irregular Football League, my Screaming Psychics are in third place while Mr.OrbsCorbs Orbliterators are in fourth. As usual, Mr. hale-bopp’s Half-Astrophysicists are in first place.

Getting Junior his school supplies, and getting him ready for school, caused a big hullabaloo around here.  He said he needed a new laptop because he spilled soda all over his current one.  Well, we can’t afford one just now.  OMG!  He threw a tantrum unlike I’ve seen for years.  Señor Zanza became so exasperated that he almost caved in and bought Junior one, but I said, “No!  Not until he apologizes for his behavior, and works out a payment plan for the laptop.”  Once Junior realized that his actions were working against him, he finally apologized, and he and Señor Zanza “worked out a deal” on a laptop.  Hmmm.

It’s nice, though, that Junior isn’t carousing around the house and elsewhere.  Schoolwork trains the mind.  I want so much better for him than I or my ex-husband had.  Junior might need a “little straightening out” after high school.  Maybe the Coast Guard would be in order.  They’d train him to be an officer and a gentleman, without much fear of getting blown to pieces in far off lands.  He could work his way through college.  He could be my personal lifeguard.

Oh my, that’s enough of that.  Poor Junior - I have his life all planned out for him.  I have yours planned, too.  You are going to come here weekly and have a good time.  You’re going to enjoy the love of Irregulars (and regulars).  We are going to be accepting of others.

What’s a lot of straightening out?  Ask: madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com

Enjoy as much of the warmth and sun that you can.  We’re definitely on the downside of the seasonal clock.  Watch out for school buses and children. Rantipoole!

Classic Magicians

Last night I ran tech at the theater for the Tucson Society of American Magicians Parlor Magician of the Year competition. I dabbled in magic a bit in my younger days and had a good time chatting with the competitors and watching the show.

One thing I told them about was going to a magic convention in St. Joseph, Missouri. I think I was 14 or 15. My father pretty much told me I HAD to go to the midnight lectures and shows (even though I technically wasn't old enough) because some of the giants of magic were performing and speaking: Dai Vernon and Slydini. There were both very elderly but still agile enough to pull off a good variety of close up magic and tell tales from their long careers in magic.

What really got all the magicians jealous is when I told them I had gotten autographs from both of them on playing cards.

I look back now and think, REALLY? I had them autograph a two of diamonds and a four of spades? What was I thinking! (Actually, if I remember correctly, they preferred low value cards as they had more room to sign them so maybe I wasn't so stupid after all!)

A Question for Hale

The Earth gets 100 tons heavier every day due to falling space dust.

Hale, how much truth you think there is to this?

What's on the Menu!

I am going to try something different on here by sharing some recipes with everyone. I thought this would be something everyone can enjoy and maybe try them out also. I know some people don't like to cook or just don't have the time to make meals. I do have some really easy recipes to share also.

The recipe I am going to start off with is my kids favorite one-

                                                        No-Boil classic Lasagna

16oz Container of Cottage Cheese
1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese
2 Eggs
2 26oz Jars of Pasta Sauce (combine them with a 1/2 cup water)
1lb Package of Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1lb Package Lasagna Noodles
1lb Package Italian Sausage or Beef

Combine cottage cheese, parmesan cheese and eggs mix very well. On the bottom of a big cake pan spread 1 cup of pasta sauce. Then top with half each of uncooked lasagna noodles, then next the cottage cheese mixture, then the sausage. Then just repeat the layers until everything is gone and top with the shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover lightly and bake 1 hour on a 350 degrees oven until hot and bubbly. Let stand covered for 15 minutes before you serve it.

I hope everyone enjoys this dish just as much as my kids love it.

Local Loyalty - Returning soon!

Yes, boys and girls, Local Loyalty will be returning soon.
It has been a very busy, hectic and FAST summer, I can't believe we're already in September! Wow, where has the time gone?

I trust you all had a wonderful summer!

These have been my ponderings
while thinking about the future of this feature.

Why I am doing this?
Hmmm, great question, as going out and interviewing people I haven't met yet is way out of my comfort zone.
I guess I have to give a little nod to one of Racine's most influential ladies, Beth David. She has been a huge, positive force in trying to make our city better. There is such a focus on the negatives, yet, it feels like so little help trying to turn it into positives.
If you're not going to try to make it better, then stop complaining. Complaining is negative, we have enough of that. We need to step up and help create positive!

We sometimes feel over run in big box stores and forget about the small, locally owned businesses and great shops we have right here in our very own town. They often get over looked, or even go unnoticed.
These are owned by people of our community. They need our help to stay in business. If we want to help in a positive way, we need to show our support to the 'little guys', right in our own area.
Please click the side bar and review past posts and try to stop in and visit our locally owned businesses. They need us!

Don't freak out, I AM going to be going against one of my foundation guidelines, of not featuring chains, etc, but there is one that makes a huge difference in our community and helps small busiesses get a leg up. I will proudly, and very excitedly be featuring one specific place, whose owner is by far, a huge, awesome help to the little guys amoungst us.

Stay tuned!
