Stay away from ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Medipren, Nuprin and others). I used to take four 200 mg. tablets twice a day. I did that for over a decade.
So I get a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and ignore it for awhile. It backs up from my bladder into my kidneys, which caused the renal failure. But the damage had already been done by the ibuprofen. That's my kidney doctor's (Nephrologist) guess. And that's why I'm slow to get back full function of the kidneys and may never have.
In the hospitl, they said my UTI was a common bug known to them. They put me on antibiotics and it cleared up.
However, I had already damaged my kidneys. I now have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) - Moderate. I'm not on dialysis, yet.
If you take ibuprofen, be wary of the dosage. My doctor said 1 tablet is the most that should be taken for a day.
Again, if you "binge" on ibuprofen, consider the risks. I'm not trying to preach down to you; I just don't want any of my pals to end up in my situation. In the tradition of Alcoholics Anonymous, I speak from my "experience, strength, and hope ."

I was on mega doses for my CTS. Had a test monthly. Once I left my job, I cut it down considerably. I was very, very lucky. No damage to my kidneys or liver. Now, I avoid it totally if I can.
*CTS=carpal tunnel syndrome.
I always try to avoid taking OTC (over the counter) medications. I take what my doc orders, and if a migraine comes, I do dip into Tylenol. I think the more you take it, the less effective it becomes.
Thanks for sharing your story, orbs. Sorry it got to a point damage and of no return.
For some reason I always thought Tylenol was a bad product and caused bad kidney damage.
Thanks for sharing ORBS.
Orb's, I took 1600mg a day for at least 23 years. I only stopped because I looked backwards to try to figure out WHY I have these headaches. The only thing I had been doing constantly for all of these years was taking Ibuprofen. I stopped taking It last year, and the headaches seemed to get better? My Dr. has done many a Kidney test and claims "I have the Kidneys of a 12 year old. I don't know If he Is full of shit, but I take very little of It now. If I listed the pains I have from the tips of my toes, to the top of my head, nobody would even believe It. BUT, the Ibuprofen actually helped NONE of It, except seemingly the headaches? EIGHT 200mg tablets a day, for all of those years. I am NOT going to disagree with you or your Kidney Dr., but I really don't think ANY of them know what they are talking about? As I have stated before Dr's are "Practicing Physicians" and they practice on US.
OKIE, acetaminophen (Tylenol) causes liver damage in large doses. They sometime combine it with other painkillers like codeine
Actually, my MATH was wrong. I took 16....200mg. tablets per day, or 3200mg. for 23 years. 4 tablets every 6 hours.
