It is fake, it's a dummy. You can see them change it for a split second before it goes up in the air.

I don't think it's fake. He probably was supposed to stop with the load on the tailgate, then the tailgate would be lowered. He just went too far.

The truck at Town and Country Garden Center when I worked there had such a gate. We would roll trees out onto the gate by their dirtballs, then lower the gate. The gate was powered by an electric motor, not hydraulically. A Monroe conversion GMC 2-yard dump truck that we turned into a 5-yard machine with the addition of wooden sides. The dump ran hydraulically. Good, all-purpose truck.
