1. Being the only girl, no. my brothers were too far apart age-wise, so they escaped it as well.

3. I use both, interchangeably. I think the big to-do over words is manufactured to keep our attention from other important issues. A greeting is a greeting. I agree with Ms. Beejay.
4. Yes, we did. My parents always used my dad's bonus for the holidays, at my mom's insistence. It was the rare time we got something new, and they went all out with the little they had. Very exciting.
