Cat Grass

For OKIE:

Left to right, the plants are youngest to oldest.  You can see the one on the left is just coming in.  When the time comes, I'll remove the plant on the right and move the other two to the right.  I'll cut the grass off of the old one and rework its soil.  Then I'll plant a new "crop," and put the container at the left on the dresser.  I recently amended the soil in all three containers with slow release nitrogen: Osmocote http://www.osmocotegarden.com/

This is what I'm growing now, but that's because that's what the local grocery store sells:

They were carrying a different brand for years and then suddenly switched to this.  This stuff seems to grow more quickly than the old stuff.  In any case, if you google cat grass or kitty grass, you'll see that there are many, many different products out there.  Oats seem to be the common thread amongst them.

Charlie really gobbles this stuff up.  At least once a day, he's at the plants, eating.

Thank you thank you thank you. Earlier today I caught him eating napkins. Right now he's hiding under the bed because storms just came through.

You're welcome You're welcome You're welcome.

I can't leave a paper towel out or Charlie will shred it. How much he eats in the process, I don't know.

He goes absolutely nuts for tuna; the human kind, not the stuff in cat food cans. I'll feed him some and he'll gobble it down and then go off to sleep. I call it his tuna coma. However, tuna, especially albacore, should not be fed to cats too often because of the mercury the fish contain.

I wonder if cats eat grass for the same reason dogs do? Lucy next door eats grass. George (the human) said she does that when something is upsetting her stomach.

LM - That is true. Chelsea used to eat grass when her stomach seemed to be having problems and now I notice Harley does too. Strange.

Maybe I didn't need to go to the gastroenterologist all those years. I just need to eat some grass.
