"Sex toys are used in the entire world and as far as I know there is no research which can state what is the most common injury. Since these products are used everywhere it is important that the standard now being developed becomes global," explained Anna Sjögren from SIS when contacted by The Local.
The most commonly lodged objects were dildos and butt plugs, which the study by a southern Stockholm hospital found were present in just over 40 percent of cases. In the remainder, a variety of other objects, including candles, bottles and vegetables were found, though the report noted that the incidents leading to the accidents were almost always linked to "sexual pleasure".
Those who sought treatments for lodged objects were disproportionately likely to be male, with a median age of 41, though the total age range spanned from 15 to 92.
What's more, the authors noted that the true figure of sex toy retention was likely even higher than the study suggests, "given reluctance to seek care for a potentially embarrassing condition". They also suggested that a "safety string or adequate-sized stopper" could have prevented many of the affected patients from retaining the items.
The SIS' proposal for sex toy standards will be submitted to the International Organization for Standardization in the hope that it will be adopted by other countries.

Danger of Particle Accelerators

Martin Rees, a well-respected British cosmologist, has a warning about particle accelerators. There is a small, but very real possibility of disaster.  Rees claims Earth could be crushed to the size of a soccer field by particle accelerators.

The Large Hadron Collider, which is a particle accelerator, shoots particles at incredibly high speeds, smashes them together, and scientists observe the fallout. According toScience Alert, these high-speed collisions have helped us discover a lot of new particles, but according to Rees, these discoveries come with several risks to humanity. In a new book, called On The Future: Prospects for Humanity, he gives some pretty dire possible outcomes of this type of advancement in science.

“Maybe a black hole could form, and then suck in everything around it,” he writes, as Sarah Knapton reported over at the Telegraph.
“The second scary possibility is that the quarks would reassemble themselves into compressed objects called strangelets. That in itself would be harmless. However, under some hypotheses, a strangelet could, by contagion, convert anything else it encounters into a new form of matter, transforming the entire earth in a hyperdense sphere about one hundred meters across.”
 That’s about the length of one soccer field or 330 feet.

But there’s an even more sinister way that Earth could be destroyed by the particle accelerators built on it. According to Rees, this would be a “catastrophe that engulfs space itself.”

“Empty space – what physicists call the vacuum – is more than just nothingness. It is the arena for everything that happens. It has, latent in it, all the forces and particles that govern the physical world. The present vacuum could be fragile and unstable,” Ress said.
“Some have speculated that the concentrated energy created when particles crash together could trigger a ‘phase transition’ that would rip the fabric of space. This would be a cosmic calamity, not just a terrestrial one.”

Racine elected official found in contempt for discussing secret open records case

RACINE – A Racine Common Council member was held in contempt by a judge Wednesday for violating his secrecy order in an unusual records case that has been entirely shielded from public view.

Racine County Circuit Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz found that Sandy Weidner violated his sealing order by sharing court records with others. After the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported a story with details from the court records, the Racine city attorney asked the judge to have her found in contempt.

Gasiorkiewicz issued no fine against Weidner but said she would face $1,000 a day in fines if she violates his order again. An attorney representing the City of Racine unsuccessfully sought to fine Weidner $15,000 for the disclosure.

The judge ordered the city to tally its legal fees associated with the contempt case but said he would not require Weidner to pay them until an appeal in the matter is done.

The case stems from a request by Weidner to get records that were shared in a closed session by the city attorney. 

An attorney for the Journal Sentinel, USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council is seeking to intervene in the case to protect the right to examine sealed court files and to argue proceedings should be conducted in open court.

The League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of Janesville will host a watch party in Janesville to watch the 1st District Congressional debate to be held in Oak Creek on Friday, Oct. 19.
The party was organized after Democrat Randy Bryce and Republican Bryan Steil did not respond in time to an Aug. 15 request to debate in an event organized by the league and Forward Janesville, league President Linda Reinhardt said. UW-Whitewater at Rock County will host the party in Allen Hall, 2909 Kellogg Ave.
The league hoped to host a debate in late September or early October so people who vote early could have a chance to hear from the candidates, Reinhardt said.
The only candidate who agreed to the debate was Ken Yorgan, who is running as an independent, Reinhardt said.
Bryce and Steil have agreed to three debates in October, starting with the Oct. 19 event.
The watch party is open to the public. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the debate scheduled to start at 7:30. The debate will be broadcast live at wiseye.org and jsonline.com.
The second debate will be in Kenosha. The third debate will be Oct. 29 in Rock County, but a specific location has not been determined.

Hello to my tribe!  How are you?  The weatherr has been so strange.  Tomorow is supposed to get into the 80's, sandwihed in by two days in the 59's. And rain, rain, rain. Well, I guess not so strange by Racine Standards.  I'm sure that the people from Foxconn are receiving an education   Wait till they're buried in a foot of snow.

This week's Irregular Football League standings show me getting pretty low and The Mighty Bears are firmly in second place, trying to knock over the Half-Astrophycisists:

I had a chance to watch a little of last wel's Packer game.  I must say, they looked good to me.  I inderstamnd that Aaron Rodgerrs was complaining about the offense after the game.  He'd do better to keep his mouth shut and stay healthy.  Please, Aaron, don't get injured again.

Hey, hey, things are popping all over downtown thanks to Foxconn.  The old Y will be turned into apartments.  Zahn's has been bought, but the owner isn't sure what to do with it.  Focxonn will take over 1 Main Place to make way for an innovation center.  They keep talking about smart cities but I'm afraid Racine is terminally stupid.

I wonder what alternatives to apartments the new owner of Zahn's is considering.  I can't think of anything else that would make money.  Watch out that you don't listen to the lies you are told by DRC and others.  Do market studies.  Non-native company.  See what they say

Junior cracked up his third car.  How long has he been driving?  The insurance won't cover it.  Señor Zanza  has said nothing.  At least, not to me.  What is it with driving and that boy?

Who will be our next governor? Tax and spend Tony Evers, or Uh, What? Scott Walker?  I'm told that the rest of the stat4e hates Foxconn because of all the resources it's taking.  Interesting. 

Just so you know, I'm betting on Scooter.  That doesn't mean I agree with him, but I expect him to win.  The Republicans aren't done with us yet.  One more term is all he asks for.  One more term to permanently muck up a few projects. 

If I was president, I would order everyone to shut up.  Shut up and take a look at the life you're leading.  Shut up, it ain't that bad.  You have a job, an apartment, and a car.  Shut up, that's great.

Downtown Racine Foxconn innovation center announced

RACINE — The  Foxconn Technology Group on Tuesday announced plans to open an innovation center in Downtown Racine where the company will work with community partners to develop and implement “smart city” innovations.

According to a release from the governor's office:

Foxconn Place Racine and the Wisconn Valley Innovation Center will connect Foxconn with institutions of higher education, businesses, local governments and the community to bring “smart city” research and development to the Racine area and beyond, according to a news release from Gov. Scott Walker that coincided with a news conference Tuesday afternoon in Downtown.

When voters in 16 Wisconsin counties and two cities go to the polls Nov. 6 they will join a nationwide debate by marking their ballots for or against legalizing marijuana use either for medical reasons or personal recreation. 

The advisory referendum questions are scattered on local ballots throughout the state, from Milwaukee and Dane to La Crosse and Langlade counties and the cities of Waukesha and Racine. All were approved by county boards or city councils.

Supportive officials and marijuana legalization activists say the referendums will provide a measure of public opinion that can be shared with the state Legislature, and possibly spur new laws relaxing or eliminating current prohibitions on pot.

When City Attorney Scott Letteney  failed  in his duty to protect and maintain the dignity and integrity of he chose to attack the whistle-blower, instead of admitting his error.

When Racine County Circuit Court Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz chose to abuse his authority and seal an open records case - likely precedent setting - he over-reached the bounds of his authority and assisted in concealing the error of City Attorney Scott Letteney.

It is time to stop the charade and pretense of legal process under the color of law.

Please consider:

Wisconsin does not and should not have secret courts, especially when it comes to the litigation of open records issues. The public has a right to know when public officials seek to quash our right to know. Sandy Weidner has spent $20,000 of her own money for the right of the public to access your government records. This is a case about the will to secrecy running amok. Sanda Weidner has represented Racine Wisconsin"s 6th District for nearly 20 years. Last year, she was running for mayor and being critical of the status quo.
Ald. Sandra Weidner told the Milwaukee Journal  she was in the midst of running for mayor last summer when City Attorney Scott Letteney called a closed-session meeting of the Executive Committee and urged all council members to attend. She said he gave a PowerPoint presentation of roughly 30 emails, most of which were hers, characterizing them as improper sharing of confidential information with the public.

The committee then recommended, and the Common Council approved, asking the city's Ethics Boards for an advisory opinion on whether the emailing activities violated Racine's ethics ordinance.
Weidner said she and her attorney sought copies of the presentation's slides but were denied by Letteney, who said he could not disclose things presented or discussed in a closed session. So Weidner filed a petition for a court order under Wisconsin's open records law.

But at the first hearing on the case, in January, Racine County Circuit Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz, after meeting with lawyers in his chambers, told others there for the hearing that they had to leave because he was sealing the case. It can't be found on CCAP, the state's online court records index, and if you search by the case number, the result says only that the case is sealed.

"We're seeing more and more efforts by all three branches of government to take the public's business private," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editor George Stanley said. "Now, a judge had decided he can seal off all information about an Open Records case, and a taxpayer-funded city attorney is seeking to punish an elected official for daring to let the public know about it. 


"He wanted to publicly humiliate me. Said he’s tried everything in his power to 'monitor my behavior,' " she said. The problem, she said, is that nothing she sent to constituents, in her experience, was confidential.

"To him, anything that comes into or out of the city attorney's office is covered by the attorney-client privilege," she said, a far more expansive interpretation than the law allows.

Advocates for open government are astounded and have never heard of a public records suit being sealed, or any kind of case without some record of who the parties are and why it was under seal.

Man killed in freak car crash after trying to reach his food at Jack in the Box drive-thru in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS • A man who apparently had trouble reaching his food at a drive-thru window at a Jack in the Box restaurant on South Grand Boulevard was killed after he was pinned by his own car.

Charles Wood Jr., 20, was pronounced dead at a hospital after the accident at the restaurant Wednesday night, police said.

Wood pulled up to the drive-thru window at an angle just after 10 p.m., police said. While trying to reach his food from the window, he apparently opened his door and leaned out of his car, police said. The car was in reverse and somehow accelerated backward, pinning Wood against a tree.

Wood suffered serious injuries to his head, neck, torso and legs, police said. He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead there.
