On the Eastern Front - the SS faced overwhelming forces against them - yet they managed to inflict massive causalities and continue fighting. On the Western front - a small force of SS took on the entire US and British Army and their lackeys (Free French & Polish) and nearly drove them back to the Sea.
The SS were the best of the best. They were battle-hardened. Our guys were a bunch of kids expecting pushovers. In the Pacific, the Marines had to rout the Japanese one cave at a time. One Jap held his cave into the 1970's.
