KENOSHA
— Charges against three people accused of stealing what they
believed was marijuana from a Randall hemp field were dismissed
Wednesday, but the state may seek new charges.
Twin
brothers Nathanial and Jordan Teddick, 22, of Salem Lakes, and Parker
Stanton, 22, of Fox Lake, Ill., were charged with criminal damage to
property and theft in September.
According
to a criminal complaint, two of the men, Jordan Teddick and Stanton,
were found in the Randall hemp field at 3 a.m. on Sept. 15 carrying
an empty suitcase and duffle bag.
The
pair were discovered by the property owner and two employees who had
been watching the field because of past thefts and were held at
gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Nathanial
Teddick was arrested nearby, having dropped the other two off at the
field.
The
state charged the three with felonies, saying the value of the hemp
in the field was over $2,500.
At
a preliminary hearing in November, Court Commissioner Larry Keating
ruled that there was not enough evidence that a felony was committed
and dismissed the felony charges, but found there was probable cause
that the three had committed misdemeanors.
On
Wednesday, the prosecution asked to dismiss the cases without
prejudice, indicating they may file new charges against the three.
A
felony bail jumping charge against Jordan Teddick remains on file. He
was charged with felony bail jumping because he had attempted to pick
up belongings from his brother’s home after their initial arrest
for the alleged hemp damage.
Three
other people were also charged with a separate theft from the same
hemp farm. Charges against those three remain in force.
