Higher snow totals now include Milwaukee suburbs as evening commute to be impacted

Milwaukee's northwest suburbs are under a winter weather advisory for 3 to 5 inches of snow on Monday, and the remainder of the metro area is forecast to receive 2-3 inches of snow, all of it impacting the evening commute, forecasters say.

The remainder of the metro area could be added to the advisory depending on how the storm develops later in the day, forecasters say.

Overnight, the National Weather Service added Washington County to the winter weather advisory, which now includes Germantown, Richfield, Jackson, West Bend and Slinger. 

Columbia and Dodge counties were also added to the advisory overnight and forecasters "may need to add another tier of counties to the south, depending on if (forecast) models get stronger..." with the storm.

For southeast and south central Wisconsin, "snow will begin to accumulate from northwest to southeast later this morning into this afternoon, with the greatest accumulations occurring this evening between approximately 6 p.m. and midnight," the weather service said in a statement. "The entire outlook area will see some snow, with the highest totals expected to occur north of I-94."

As of Monday morning, Milwaukee was forecast to receive 2-3 inches of snow from the storm. Waukesha was forecast to receive 3-4 inches. Madison was expecting 2-4 inches.

Look for the snow to begin around 2 p.m. in Madison, 3 p.m. in Waukesha and West Bend and around 4 p.m. in Milwaukee.

The snow totals increase as you go north in the state.

All of this is the result of a powerful winter storm that has prompted winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings across almost all of Wisconsin on Monday.
