As thunderstorms dropped 2 inches of rain on Janesville on Thursday, the LaVeen family made the most of it, kayaking down their flooded street on the south side of the city in Rock County.
Tasha Calkins LaVeen recorded a video of her daughter Chelsea, 10, and son Caleb, 13, paddling green kayaks down the street as the rain continued to fall at 6 p.m. on July 7.
LaVeen said they have lived in their house for about 15 years, and their street floods enough to kayak it about once a year because the sewer at the corner cannot keep up with heavy rainfall.
Their house is always OK, she said, "it just creates lots of fun for the kids."

In addition to kayaking, that fun included Chelsea riding an inflatable unicorn down the street.
