Forecasters expect 2 to 5 inches of heavy, wet snow to fall across portions of southern Wisconsin; lakeshore flooding possible

Winter looks like it will finally show up in parts of southern Wisconsin later Friday afternoon and Saturday, forecasters say. 

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow across areas north and west of Milwaukee County.

The advisory covers Washington, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Columbia, Dodge, Iowa, Dane, Jefferson, Lafayette, Green and Rock counties in southeast Wisconsin. The advisory is in effect from late Friday night through 6 p.m. on Saturday.

"Rain and snow will move into southern Wisconsin this afternoon," the weather service said in a statement. "The precipitation will then change to all snow tonight and continue through Saturday. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible."

Forecasters say the main area of snow is likely along a line from Darlington to Madison to Sheboygan where "2 to 5 inches of wet heavy snow is expected."
