Bald eagle numbers soar to new heights in Wisconsin

The bald eagle population in Wisconsin has made a huge comeback in the last 45 years.
According to a new survey released by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the state has shown a dramatic increase in the total number of active bald eagle nests since 1974.

The aerial nesting survey of 2019 observed 1,684 occupied bald eagle nests in 71 of 72 counties.
Jim Woodford, the section chief of field operations for Wisonsin DNR, told ABC News that the data published in the maps "were collected through annual low-altitude aerial flights completed by Wisconsin DNR pilots and biologists."
"These surveys were completed during the bald eagle’s egg incubation stage to determine nest occupancy and the chick rearing stage to determine nest success," he explained. "The 2019 surveys marked our 47th consecutive year in completing these flights."
"The success of bald eagles in Wisconsin is a comeback story fueled by the national ban on the pesticide DDT, added protections under state and federal endangered species laws, river cleanups under the Clean Water Act and public support of nest monitoring and protection efforts," the Facebook post said.

"Part of that public support includes donations to the Endangered Resources Fund via Wisconsin state income tax forms, purchases of an Endangered Resources license plate and citizen reports of bald eagle nests or nest-building activity."
The bald eagle nest occupancy survey was flown in March and April to locate occupied nests. Additional ground observations were provided by landowners, birders, volunteers, and raptor banders; this information is used to supplement and check aerial data.

Venus and Mars - Rock Show - Jet - Paul McCartney And Wings 1976 Remastered

Four for Fridays!

Sorry I am so late in posting this but it has been a very long week for me and I am on four hours of sleep today. Here are your questions.

1) When and if you have ever lived in an apartment did you have neighbors that kept you up all night?

2) Did the neighbors sound like a herd of cows on your ceiling?

3) Could you hear their conversations?

4) Did you have to call the police on them?

Have a great weekend!

Talking Racine Episode 158 "The Great Reincarnaction"

Kirk Douglas, Indomitable Icon of Hollywood's Golden Age, Dies at 103

The actor starred in such films as 'Champion,' 'The Bad and the Beautiful,' 'Lust for Life,' 'Gunfight at the O.K. Corral' and 'Spartacus,' to name just a few.

Kirk Douglas, the son of a ragman who channeled a deep, personal anger through a chiseled jaw and steely blue eyes to forge one of the most indelible and indefatigable careers in Hollywood history, died Wednesday in Los Angeles. He was 103.
“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” son Michael Douglas wrote on his Instagram account. “To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the Golden Age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.”
Douglas walked away from a helicopter crash in 1991 and suffered a severe stroke in 1996 but, ever the battler, he refused to give in. With a passionate will to survive, he was the last man standing of all the great stars of another time.
Nominated three times for best actor by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — for Champion (1949), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) and Lust for Life (1956) — Douglas was the recipient of an honorary Oscar in 1996. Arguably the top male star of the post-World War II era, he acted in more than 80 movies before retiring from films in 2004.

Editorial

From Racine Knows:

Mayor Mason has demonstrated what a liar and a traitor he is. First, by bloating his office staff while balancing the budget on the backs of the city's workers and retirees. Second, by pressure from the NO Arena movement, promised to veto the Arena/convention center/hotel, which he did, but, the proceeded for the next three years, behind our backs, making a deal for a similar project without revealing the plan to the public, until the last minute. Then rushing the approval process without consideration for wide public input. Passed of course because he has total control and majority on the council. Remember this at election time.

The Site TO GO TO for Republicans Who Smoke Dope!

From Racine WI - Sin City:

GET REAL!

We’ll just abbreviate Empower Wisconsin as EWI! It stinks! Either you are a dope smoking Republican or Satire loving Democrat to love this knock-off of Harvard’s National Lampoon.
Featuring such enlightening articles as:
“A University of Michigan lesbian crafting group is facing charges of bias for excluding transgender women born male.
In launching last spring, “Lez Get Crafty” limited membership to lesbians looking to “express their creative side.” Flyers said as much, that the group was only for “lesbian Womyn-born-Womyn.””
All Woke Up: Lesbian craft group accused of bias
MADISON — Mr. Task Force is at it again.
After signing a record 63 executive orders last year, Gov. Tony Evers signed another four in January — three of them creating a commission or task force.
Leave it to Evers to try to circumvent the Republican-controlled Legislature he is loathe to work with.
His latest order creates the Governor’s Task Force on Student Debt. A sop to debt-laden college students and graduates, the task force — like Evers’ myriad other government panels — was invented to create the appearance of action. Its mission is to look into the causes of student debt and to research the best ways to reduce its burden. It doesn’t take a task force to know that higher education is unaffordable to many and it has created a generation of indentured servants, indebted for years and years into their adult working lives.
Leave it to Evers: Is Tony a Sith Lord?
MADISON — The big story recently for Foxconn-hating media outlets was that the Taiwan tech giant’s slower development pace in Racine County could free up as much as $150 million for the state.
Buried in the coverage was the real story: that the incentives package agreement crafted by Gov. Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. (WEDC) is protecting taxpayers.
The Legislative Fiscal Bureau last month posted fresh projections showing the state’s general fund is expected to take in $800 million more in tax revenue than previously expected.
LFB also notes that the 2019-21 state budget includes maximum cash payments Foxconn would receive should it hit its employment and investment targets. All told, the company could earn nearly $3 billion in incentives over time.
As the mainstream players gleefully reported, Foxconn hasn’t created enough jobs or made enough capital expenditures to earn hundreds of millions of dollars in tax credits under the terms of the $10 billion development agreement. While Foxconn has not hit early development goals, it hasn’t been collecting on incentives.
And that’s the ultimate point for taxpayers.
“I think this is a taxpayer protection story,” said state Sen. Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield). He said the incentives deal specifically requires Foxconn to “perform first” before it receives tax credits.
Democrats have blasted the Foxconn deal, mainly because it was the work of Republicans. More so, it was the work of Republicans they truly loathe, Walker and President Trump.
Media’s Foxconn hatred fogs facts
MADISON — The Tavern League of Wisconsin is up to its old tricks again, trying to slip a Mickey to lawmakers with a bill that would extend bar hours for the week of the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee while crushing the emerging wedding barn industry.
The bill draft, written by former Tavern League president and supper club owner,  Rep. Rob Swearingen (R-Rhinelander), among other Republicans, would require so-called wedding barns to obtain a liquor license. It also would expand bar times to 4 a.m. in a dozen Southeast and south-central counties — including Milwaukee and Dane counties — during the four days of the Democrat convention in July.
This cocktail of legislation should come as no surprise. The powerful Tavern lobby has been pushing its Capitol weight around for some time in pursuit of a licensure bill. As Empower Wisconsin first reported in October, the group has been trying to couple the bar time proposal with its hit on wedding barns since shortly after the Democratic National Committee selected Milwaukee as host city for this year’s liberalpolooza.
The legislation also would trim the hours of operation at small breweries while granting booze permits for Road America racetrack in Elkhart Lake and State Fair Park.
Steve Nagy, operator of Homestead Meadows, a popular rural Outagamie County wedding barn, said the Tavern League and their legislative allies are trying to create a sense of urgency to pass the bar time bill — and its attached proposals — before the end of the abbreviated legislative session. Ultimately, it’s a sneak attack aimed at driving competitors out of business, Nagy said.

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my dears!  How are you?  I'm doing well.  I like the fact that our winter has been relatively mild so far.  Temperatures in the 30s beat freezing in subzero temps.  Of course, there is the wind.  It blows almost constantly out there.  What does all of this have to do with climate change?  I don't know if it has anything to do with climate change, but it sure seems like something has been done to our weather.  One thing that hasn't changed: long stretches of cloudy days in winter.  I've forgotten what the sun looks like.  I think it's yellow.  And it rises in the east.  Maybe it will return one of these days.

Who won the Super Bowl?  Who cares?  Our gorgonized Green Bay Packers weren't playing, so I didn't watch.  Instead of those infamous Super Bowl commercials, I watched one for California Psychics.  Where do these guys get off with this stuff?  They have the money to run commercials on TV, but they don't have the talent I have in my baby finger.  Just a bunch of lying scammers.  They are what gives psychics a bad name.  Their only goal is money, and more money.  Go to hell, California Psychics.

Well, the City of Racine's computer system has been infected with ransomware.  Oh my!  How did that happen?  Didn't our IT people have any idea of the threats online?  Were they so presumptuous as to assume that they could protect the system from threats themselves?  I can only assume the worst.   I'm sure that Mr. Mayor Cory 'Butterball' Mason's people are arrogant swine who think that they're invulnerable.  Even before the true extent of the problem was known, 'Butterball' was announcing that the city would pay no ransom if one was demanded.  Really?  Is 'Butterball' aware of the other cities that have paid the ransom rather than rebuild their entire computer systems?  It might be cheaper in the long run.  And while we're on the subject, can someone teach city staff how to recognize phishing emails?  Apparently, one stupid person caused this infection of the city's computer system.  Gee, kind of like one stupid person running the city . . .

How is it that Racine has the highest unemployment rate in the state, and yet numerous redevelopment projects in the city go lacking for workers?  Could it be that some Racine residents would rather not work?  That seems to be the only logical conclusion.  Imagine that.  Activists in the city demand jobs for residents, but when jobs are offered, said activists are suddenly quiet.  What's up, people?  Is it true that you'd rather collect welfare than go to work?  Shame on you, shame, shame!  What will you blame your laziness on next?  Maybe the unemployed workforce of Racine has been infected by a virus that makes them indolent.  Work instills pride, and it's easy to see that many Racinians have no pride.  The only thing they're proud of is their stupidity  They will fight to the death to protect that.

Finally, RUSD.  Ugh.  They're going to ask for one billion dollars?  That's billion with a "b."  Are they insane?  Could be.  The taxpayers of Racine have given and given to RUSD.  Millions and millions of dollars have been given to them to repair and rebuild their old buildings.  What have they done with the money?  Lined their pockets?  We give them money to fix buildings, they "reallocate" the funds to their personal financial gain.  RUSD simply doesn't work.  It's time to disband it.  Goodbye RISD.

Well, my dears, that's it.  I love you all and look forward to our weekly visits.
