Juanita Zdroik fatally shot in town of Raymond

RACINE, Wis. —
A jury Friday found Miguel Cruz guilty of first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of a woman 21 years ago.
Juanita Zdroik, was found fatally shot along Highway K in the town of Raymond on Feb. 7, 2000.
A new lead revived the case in 2017 and Cruz was arrested.
"I pray, like all of you, that we find some comfort in knowing the person responsible for executing a mother of two young children will now spend the rest of their life in prison," Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said in news release.
He said he was the the first deputy sheriff at the scene.
Cruz is scheduled for sentencing in April.
The sheriff and Zdroik's son, Zachary, will be holding a news conference Sunday morning.
