KENOSHA, Wis. —
The police officer who was cleared in the shooting of Jacob Blake has returned to duty but is the subject of a second investigation involving a gun.
Kenosha police said Officer Rusten Sheskey returned from administrative leave on March 31.
But he's not yet back on the streets patrolling Kenosha.
"Although this incident has been reviewed at multiple levels, I know that some will not be pleased with the outcome; however, given the facts, the only lawful and appropriate decision was made," Chief Daniel Miskinis said in a statement.
Sheskey shot Blake multiple times during a confrontation last August.
The use of force incident was investigated by an outside agency.
The Kenosha County District Attorney declined to file criminal charges in the shooting.
Blake has been paralyzed from the waist down.
"He acted within the law and was consistent with training," Miskinis' statement read. "This incident was also reviewed internally. Officer Sheskey was found to have been acting within policy and will not be subjected to discipline."
Sheskey had been on paid administrative leave since the shooting.
According to multiple sources and Sheskey's attorney, while on paid leave, following the Blake shooting, Sheskey was issued another service weapon, which ended up getting stolen.
Kenosha police would not comment Tuesday as the internal investigation continues.
They would not tell WISN 12 when or from where the gun was stolen.
Police also said part of the reason Sheskey isn't back on the street yet is that he has been out since the shooting and needs to catch up on training.
The mayor declined the opportunity Tuesday to speak about the investigation.
Miskinis made no mention of the missing gun investigation in his statement about Sheskey returning to work.
Sources told WISN 12 Sheskey's service weapon was later recovered.
Police said the internal investigation was expected to take a few more weeks.
Blake has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Sheskey.
