Penguin Random House's Banned Wagon, which raises awareness about banned books and gives some of them away, will park at Milwaukee's Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., for events and activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24.
The Milwaukee stop is one on a tour of cities in Midwestern and Southern states that have seen a rise in efforts to ban books.
While supplies last, the Banned Wagon will distribute free copies from a list of 20 titles to attendees at its events. Titles include "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank, "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green and "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter" by Erika L. Sánchez.
During the Milwaukee visit, a related presentation and panel discussion will take place in Central Library's Rotary Community Room. Community literacy advocates will staff tables on the library's first floor, including America's Black Holocaust Museum, Cactus+ (Cactus Book Club) and One MKE Coalition.
Food trucks will be parked on N. 9th Street in conjunction with the Banned Wagon's visit.
