RACINE — Athon Reeves of Racine was charged Tuesday after a multi-agency investigation reportedly found images of child pornography on several electronic devices at his home. Reeves is also suspected of sexual assault of a child less than 13 years old.
Reeves faces 14 counts of possessing child pornography in a case filed Sept. 24 and one count of first-degree child sexual assault in a case filed Aug. 27, according to online court records.
Investigators searched the 27-year-old’s residence in the 1400 block of Wisconsin Avenue on Aug. 25 and turned over multiple electronic devices to Wisconsin Department of Justice investigators for forensic examination, according to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
The search reportedly was prompted by two cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The release said investigators also learned that Reeves was suspected of sexual assault, which the Racine Police Department reportedly confirmed it was investigating at the time RCSO executed its search warrant.
Court records show Reeves was in custody as of Aug. 29 and is being held on a $50,000 cash bail.
The criminal complaint details an Aug. 29 interview between a sheriff’s office investigator and Reeves, in which Reeves allegedly admitted to being a long-time viewer of child pornography.
Reeves is scheduled to appear for a review hearing in the sexual assault case Oct. 21 and a competency hearing for the child pornography case Nov. 22.
