Yep, football season is upon us and the NFL and the JTIrregulars League kicks off this week. Football is a game of speed, strength, leverage, and collisions...what better laboratory for physics?
University of Nebraska Physics Professor Timothy Gay produced a series of short videos on football physics. These videos are shown on the jumbotron before the University of Nebraska football games. He also wrote a book on Football Physics.
Dr. Gay also gives hour long public talks on football physics. I saw him give the talk at a meeting a few years ago and it was very good. Through the magic of technology, you can also see one of his talks. He gave a talk at Fermilab in 2005 and they have it available streaming online. This was after I worked at Fermilab so you won't see me in the audience!
I hope you are ready for some bone crushing hits...I know how to use leverage!

Stop the trash talk hale, just remember, no one can hurt a man like a woman can, ha ha. (Just tossing my own trash... I have no idea what the heck I'm talking about)

Astrophysics applied: If a player doesn't have a cup on, and gets hit in the right (or wrong) place, he'll curl up into a tiny ball smaller than any black hole!
