NASA is planning on retiring the Shuttle in 2010 after the ISS is finished. So what to do with them? Well NASA has just put out a
request for information to organizations that would be interested in acquiring a Space Shuttle or one of its main engines for display. They are focuses at museums, but other educational institutions are eligible as well...hey, isn't THIS an educational institution? Who has a big backyard?
Of course this could change with the incoming Obama administration. Some people want to see the Shuttle keep flying until our next generation of launch vehicles is ready. Even if that happens, it just gives us a couple more years to plan, right?
Maybe we could pick it up when we get to Florida!

ooo, if we get it, we won't need the bus anymore!:)
Since Beejay lives in Florida, we could keep it in her back yard.
In the woods...we could hide it back there with the bobcat and other wildlife.
We could revamp it into theme hotel rooms and rent them out for an exorbitant fee, then use the proceeds for one heck of a shindig. Then when it is time for a road trip, we could take it out for a spin.
I have to live here guys...but those folks behind me had one of 'those' parties a week ago...luckily, I had some wine before retiring (like I don't every night???) and fell asleep b/4 calling in a 'noise complaint.' This would be so getting even! Rap music...grrrrr.
Cool, more spare parts for the bus.
I'd really like to see the Museum of Science and Industry get one.
I'll be in Florida soon - I'm not too strong but I'm GREAT at supervising.
Good thing the price of gas has gone down. I don't think the shuttle gets good mpg.
The Enterprise is already at the National Air and Space Museum in the Smithsonian. There is one competitor we shouldn't have to worry about. I agree, huck, the Science and Industry museum would be a great place, but they would need some serious free space to exhibit that.
As long as the kids can no longer use the fountain downtown, let tear that out and stand an engine up there!!!
Great idea SER. It is already the Laurel Clark Memorial Park. How could they deny it?
