My understanding has been that there is no law prohibiting openly carrying a firearm in Wisconsin, but everyone knows that the police will arrest you for disorderly conduct if you do it. That is exactly what happened in this case. And a judge threw it out.

Disorderly conduct is the Gestapo ordinance that the police use when they can't think of anything else to charge you with. I've been charged with disorderly conduct simply for disagreeing with a police officer (the reasoning being that I should know that disagreeing with a police officer may reasonably lead to a riot or the complete breakdown of law and order in society as we know it).
I've been threatened a few times with disorderly conduct, but it was when the police didn't really want me there. What? You mean I can't stand on a public sidewalk officer? My bad.
Score one for the good guys. Next, concealed carry.
Orbs, you exactly right, the Gestapo use that claiming we can arrest you to maintain law and order.
I was told that one night as I was standing there with a 3ft 2 X 2 in my hand...and was surrounded by 6 officers. I opted to put in down and go in house.
Well, like an idiot, I used to call the police when there's trouble in my neighborhood. I've since learned better.
Yes orbs, you and I share that same experience. I learned if you (god forbid) need assistance in Racine, hope there is a sheriff around, because the police won't help you; they will turn it around and challenge YOU.
