Don't ever, and I mean ever take your vehicle to Midas. Here is my horror story. I took my truck in to get an oil change at Penzoil (Synthetic) with a seal condition treatment for 68.00on Wednesday. I knew that my catalytic converter was going, so I called around, and Midas was the lowest at $195.00. I get there early (5:00 appointment), fill out my paperwork and wait. At 5:45, John, the manager comes out and says "Ok,that will be 23.95". I said for a catalytic converter, what a deal. He says no for your oil change and tire rotation. WTF! No, I said I am here for a CC repair. Oh, hey says sorry, you wont have to pay for that, and has one of his guys put the car back in. I told him that he just wasted my 68.00 oil change from two days ago. He "Claims" that he put synthetic in it. BS! He then tells me, after looking at the CC that he cant do it for 195, it has to be a special CC for $485!!!! They also rotated my tires, and put my three month old front tires on the back. I told them to give me back my truck I am going elsewhere. Stay away from Midas, and don't believe what John, the manager tells you. FAIL, FAIL, FAIL. Plus, he was snotty to my wife. I have my nomination for the next bird of the week!

I went to one of those chain stores a long time ago. They were offering a deal on exhaust systems with a great guarantee. I walked out of there spending about three times what they advertised because evidently my auto, mysteriously, also couldn't accept the standard parts. Same type of situation. Never again.
Stu, you have no idea of how ironic this blog is to me. I don't want to get into it, but I once was well acquainted with a Midas shop and a manager named John, but not the one in Racine. I worked in auto repair for some time and, unfortunately, the business is full of wolves and cons. When you call certain places for an estimate, their priority is NOT to give you an idea of what repairs will ocst, but to get you into their shop no matter what.
I don't know the specifics of your catalytic converter issues, but be aware first that they are covered by the manufacturr for 5 years or 50,000 miles. That's law. Also, I've had some good luck with Wisconsin Muffler
and JC's Muffler and Brakes
.
I personally go to JC Muffler's. Most of the time, they provide good service and decent prices. They even have a courtesy car that I have used a few times.
My dad swears by JCs he only goes there or Stus on Washington for any car repair.
Not a car deal but I dealt with that this summer with eye glasses. I was going to go to JC Pennys to get my eyeglasses, they had a deal 2 pairs for 129 dollars, well in the end those 2 pairs of glasses would cost me over 300 dollars. Luckily I didnt order them and then find out the price. I went over to Plaza Optical and the man there spent a good long time with me to figure out what I needed for lenses and appropriate frames. It cost me a LOT less and I got the right lenses. If I would have gone to JC pennys and got the right lenses it would have been well over 500 dollars. I have terrible vision and need the right kind of lenses.. actually the ones I ended up buying was not the most expensive like the ones they were trying to sell me other places.
