Police Punch Probe
Based on what I've read and see here, I agree with the police on this one. Don't mess with the police in the performance of their duties, and especially don't shove a cop when he's trying to arrest someone. To me, this is just further evidence of the breakdown of law and order in our society.
This is getting tiring...this black/white thing. When you do something stupid you get what you deserve. The problem is all these 'organizations' have to get involved. Like I said...TIRING!
I am always shocked and amazed at the abuse our police take from the high school students. Someone is teaching these children that it is okay to verbally, and incredibly, physically assault officers.
I wanted to watch the longer version before commenting.
Hard to say the officer over reacted. He was trying to arrest someone and the second woman was definitely close enough to potentially grab one of his weapons. The officer took some action to get that person to back off which had to be done. Unfortunate? Maybe, but if you do something stupid, something bad might happen to you.
Watching the longer video, after the punch, the officer seemed to be doing his best to arrest an uncooperative person with the least amount of force possible. He could have been a lot rougher.
I agree with you, kk, I could/would never do the job. I feel sorry for the officer. I think he'd look bad no matter what he did.
In the longer video, you can see other people shooting videos/pictures of the scene. It's kind of surreal to watch everyone else watch the drama unfold. There's already all sorts of videos of it on YouTube, including the mandatory remix (there will be more). It's part of our culture now.
But the refusal to obey the police, that's part of the culture shock for me now. I grew up like Stu - when a cop said jump, you said, "How high, sir?" Even in my most "bad ass" days, I knew it was smarter to cooperate than to resist. You can file a lawsuit after you get out of jail. But at the moment of contact with police, they are the immediate and ultimate authority, empowered to kick ass if necessary, or even use deadly force. They aren't playing.
Cops need to take all the tazers, bean bag guns and the like and put them away in a closet somewhere and use the real thing 45 semi automatic.
And if it was my choice I would carry a 12ga 10 shot pump with a full vented rib and 00 buck shot...9 whole balls of steel in one shell. What a widowmaker, and the 45 for back up

Here's a longer video wherein the arrestee continues to struggle and swear at the officer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn5gYAgL-iA.
They must not have tasers.
The only correct answers to a police officer are yes sir/maam and no sir/maam.
You either have to be stupid or have some kahones to go ghetto on a cop.
I don't see the problem, he could have used his night stick.
Besided...when a cop (i.e....someone with a gun) sez to back off...you back off..if you don't..you deserve what you get...
now, you can't help but notice the cop was white, and the recipent of the fist full of knuckles was black...
the cop must be racist huh?:)

There is no way I would ever want that job.

Plain and simple, these girls were wrong. Unfortunately I think the police officer will pay, which is also wrong. Hopefully the girls will be charged.
