I lived right next to Rahr's Brewery as a very young child. I remember the trains coming and going, but don't really remember too much trucking going on. Interesting pictures.
These old trucks remind me of Progressive Milk's trucks. We had milk delivered to our milk chute when we first moved to Racine.
Ooo, I like the trucks, especially the "aero" ones. SER, please send me that PowerPoint file. Mom says I was nuts for vehicles since I was a baby. "Car" was one of my first words.
I searched around for a Rahr's Beer truck but could not find any. Althought I did learn Rahr's was the longest running brewery in Green Bay, it closed in 1966.
Anywho, I did find a picture of KK hitching a ride in a LaBatts Beer tuck so I posted that!
Hahahaha.... I didn't see myself in the truck until you pointed it out. Hmmm. Rahr's went out of business 2 years after we moved. I don't think it was due to lack of my business. I wasn't a consumer, quite yet. ;>
Anybody remember the appliance repair shop on Douglas called Can Repair? If you do, great! Growing up, I collected beer cans. I have a collection of beer cans that's about the size of the one displayed at the shop. That's about 2 walls from ceiling to floor with cans on the shelves. (I lost count years ago, but I'm pretty sure that I have over a thousand cans)
I started when I was in the forth grade. In the collection, I have flattops, cone tops, and the ring pull tabs. Some brands I have are Iron City, Peoples Beer, Schmitt's, Rhinelander, Falstaff, Meister Brau, Huber, the list could go on and on....
Right now the collection is in boxes in storage. Waiting for the day I can get I can get a big enough place enough to build shelves for display.
Thank you SER and kk for bringing up a great memory! And yes, I do have a couple of Rahr's flattops in my collection...
Orbs, yes I do have a few full cans in my collection. There is NO WAY I'm gonna crack open a can of beer that's over ten years old! The idea of being hospitalized for slamming a ten year beer does not thrill me.
Seriously, yes a few cans have leaked. Not fun cleaning the cans off...

Ha, that's a great truck you're riding in, kk. In fact, it's gorgeous, as much art as machine.
Drew, does anyone collect full beer cans, or do they all leak out over time? (They say the only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask.)

Most of them are empty though.
I'm miffed I'm only riding and not able to drive! ;>
