Last night (afternoon) I took Dirty Bob over to Applebee's and we had a free meal. I had the oriental Chicken salad, and he had the steak. I hate to take advantage as I want the to continue this service for Vets, so I ordered drinks and the house appetizer platter. We left stuffed. We got there at 3:45 and the parking lot was full. People were already starting to park in the mall lot area. Luckily we got one of the last open tables in the back. When we left (about 5ish) the line went out the door and down the sidewalk. There were a LOT of gray hairs there early but the crowd when we left was more middle aged.
Texas Steak house was giving away a free blooming onion.
The restaurant at Marriots had a special (we were told)
A seafood place in Glendale (Much too far)
And Monday Golden Corral is offering a free meal to Vets too.
DQ on Washington stopped their give away the year after they won the Red white and blue paint scheme on their building. (no comment)
Bob and I plan lunch there next Monday. Hate the evening crowds. Anyhow thank you to all the places that salute our Vets. Please be sure to frequent them in the future.

Huck, I saw an electronic billboard along the freeway in downtown Milwaukee saying "they served over 21,000 free veterans lunches yesterday. I didn't get any free lunches but since I was wearing my Army Vet hat, I got a handful of "thank you's". Those thoughts of goodwill will do just fine too. Besides, I got into all the Racine Raider games for free this year because of their veteran appreciation.
I think it's great that some establishments offer free meals for veterans.
Applebee's also did this one day during Teacher Appreciation week. An unbelievable gift. The lines went out the door then, too. I don't know how they can afford to do this in such difficult times.
I think they realize extra business that covers the expense. I know that I ate twice there last year out of appreciation. Applebee's may also realize that keeping their employees busy makes for good inter-company relations. Looking at it that way, it also aids in generating income in the form of tips for the employees. Last, very few people went as all Vet groups like Bob and I. Look at it lioke a day of buy one, get one free thing. Drinks, a high profit item were not included. Some like me, had high profit appetizers.
I don't think there is a problem with profit. Employees stay busy and happy, customers become loyal and sure to be repeats, and the PR is priceless.
