Ten Years After - "I'd Love to Change the World"
I realize that some of the lyrics to this song could be construed as "socialist." Given the tenor of our times, I feel it necessary to point out that I advocate NO political position by posting this song. It's just a kick-ass tune from my youth.
I don't know that the song is so political, as it is just commentary on how things are. I would think the lyric, "dykes and fairies" would garner more ire from some.
I don't think we need to hide our political inclinations. I think we should be able to talk reasonably about them. If you don't like what I say, or have facts that oppose my thoughts, then say it back, nicely. The way you learn anything is by researching it, sorting though the facts and assimilating it by talking about it.
Anything in the news lately is skewed to one side or the other. It is so ugly. I'm in up to my eyeballs in the middle of it, and I can barely take listening to anymore. There are a lot of people who feel they will be untouched and are sick and tired of it. Unfortunately, they will become interested when the fallout hits them personally and then it will be too late.
Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin' I'm sitting here just contemplatin' I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation. Handful of senators don't pass legislation And marches alone can't bring integration When human respect is disintegratin' This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
Bob Marley: "Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights! (...)Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight! Most people think, Great god will come from the skies, Take away everything And make everybody feel high. But if you know what life is worth, You will look for yours on earth: And now you see the light, You stand up for your rights. jah!
One of my fondest memories of that song is when I was underage and in Benny's strip club on the south side. A dancer danced to that song right in front of me and my friends. I was in love! Unfortunately, I couldn't afford the price of "fulfilling" the expression of my "love."

"I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do, so I leave it up to you" probably describes all the people who do not vote.
