As you & I continue to open our deep pockets for this disaster, that crisis, or the next whatever catastrophe, please keep these facts in mind:
The American Red Cross
President and CEO - Marsha J. Evans
salary for the year 2010 was $651,957, plus all personal, medical, & pension expenses.
Less than 10 cents of your donated dollar actually goes to the cause.
The United Way
President - Brian Gallagher receives a
$375,000 base salary, along with numerous personal & family expense benefits.
Less than 12 cents of your donated dollar actually goes to the cause.
UNICEF
CEO - Caryl M. Stern receives $1.2 Million per year (100k per month) plus all living & housing expenses, including a ROLLS ROYCE.
Less than 15 cents of your donated dollar actually goes to the cause.
The Salvation Army
Commissioner - Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization.
96 cents of all donated dollars go to the cause.
I don't think any further comment is necessary.

Always check snopes on these, Ser. The figures you cite are way off. The Red Cross spends over 90% on programs and the others are pretty high as well.
I verified the snopes article by checking Charity Navigator", a site that compiles info on how efficient different charities use their funds.
Remember when someone forwards you something from the internet, make sure it passes the smell test. This one definitely didn't pass.
Oh, and I still won't donate to the Salvation Army due to how they push religion. There are perfectly good secular organizations I give to that have good records of how they use their funds.
When you give to the OrbsCorbs Fund, there is no waste - every penny goes to me.
Thanks for the info Boppster. Charity Navigator...never heard of it, I'll have to check it out.
I never give to charities but I will buy candy bars. How over the phone the fireman's fund got me to give $15 I'll never know. They wanted $25. Two days later the news came around the fireman's fund was accused of giving funds to a political fund. Darn..foiled again!!!! But I did get a window sticker.
Thanks for the clarification, hale. The reason people believe this is true is because you occasionally hear something to this effect on the news... some CEO who is abusive to the charity.
It is despicable that people use the pretense of a good cause to bilk others. It hurts the real causes and the people who need help. I get the "firemen" and "police" charity calls, too. I tell them that I'm not interested. When you buy from telemarketers, you encourage them to do it more. The same goes for the so-called charity calls. Once you give to one, you are on the sucker list. The calls increase. My mom was bombarded. They must share their lists. So, be careful, sassa.
If you are interested in helping out a cause, ask for the paperwork to be mailed to you... then check them out before any transaction occurs.
What It means SER, Is CHOOSE where you donate your money VERY carefully. If you want hear a REAL problem that provides you NO choice, WHY do we need all of these charities when our own U.S. government FUNDED by our tax dollars could handle ANY "Disaster, Crisis, or Catastrophe, that could occur. HOW could they do that? STOP giving AWAY all of our money to OTHER countries, and STARTING wars.
Orb's, You did It again. Too funny.
Toad, I agree with you about aid to other nations, especially because it is a political tool rather than a humanitarian effort.
I just give to the "world fund"
I am so tired of all the firemen and policemen who call me daily for contributions...each and everyone is from your 'local area.' Sure they are! I told the breast cancer fund that I give to the Cancer Society...they berated me because they send me address labels...hey, I didn't ask them to...so what's that suppose to mean...I should return them???
I am tired of all the harassing phone calls...if I make a donation, I swear the following week they are calling for more money.
