singer-songwriter, poet and
visual artist, who became a highly influential component of the New York City
punk rock movement with her 1975 debut album
Horses.

[3] her work was a fusion of rock and poetry. Smith's most widely known song is '
Because the Night', which was co-written with
Bruce Springsteen and reached number 13 on the
Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978.

Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture,

I remember in the early 70's a friend telling me about this new poet out of New York. He thought she was important and gave me a copy of her book, Seventh Heaven. The next time I heard of her, she and her band were on the radio.

Beautiful tunes Orbs! The only album I have from Patti Smith is Horses. Guess I'm gonna have to get my hands on her other material as well. Where do you recommend I start?
Oh yeah, U2's version of it is on my The Best of 1980-1990/The B-Sides CD.
Radio Ethiopia and Easter. Those two and Horses were her biggest commercial hits.
I find all of her work haunting. It sends chills up my spine and gives me goosebumps. She was with Allen Ginsberg when he died. She is a true artist.
