"RACINE — The keeping of backyard chickens is now allowed in the City of Racine.
"The City Council voted 9-5 late Monday night to approve an ordinance allowing single-family, owner-occupied households in the city to keep up to four hens, but no roosters. Renters would not be allowed to keep the birds.
"There was no discussion of the once controversial proposal, which was presented to aldermen after the council had already been meeting for three hours on a number of other high profile issues."

Chickens are gateway animals. Pretty soon they'll lead to hard core stuff like keeping bulls and elephants in backyards.

Speaking as one who lives next door to Old MacDonalds Farm, it's the roosters that make all the noise. I thought the farm had been shut down but I was wrong. Rooster Cogburn is still at it.
That being said, there were two occasions when chickens ended up in our yard. Crazy.
Roosters aren't allowed under our ordinance, and you can't have more than 4 hens. Hardly seems worth the effort.
I wonder if they'll draw more fox and coyote into the city.
Not a fan of this within the city.
All I heed now is a trained chicken hawk and I'll get a free lunch...
