That's the neighborhood I grew up in. It used to be a nice, working class neighborhood. Now it's a toilet. When mom still lived there, her and her neighbors often found shell casings.
And I still don't understand why Chatham St. is that way when it's one block from North Beach. My mom had a friend in the neighborhood who was a shrewd investor. He told me that if he was younger, he would be buying up all the property on Michigan Blvd. and Chatham St. that he could.
Dick Pugh is buying properties on the lower end of Chatham St. and fixing them up because he believes the neighborhood can be restored. He lives there.
The brick house is where I grew up: http://journaltimes.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/no-injuries-in-shooting-in-block-of-chatham/article_e2f30983-2e83-538c-8d07-a59f2c104928.html

When crime is so prevalent and the Police refuse to respond in a timely manner, people just stop calling to report crimes. Further, when calling in a crime, or trying to stop from being a victim of a crime gets you either targeted by the criminals or arrested by the Police you hide inside your house and plan to get out! How about all those empty and rundown houses in Racine? That's no accident - people are fleeing because their lives are worth more. The Stats shown by RPD are lies.
We had a guy and his horse shot the other night. They showed the horse who looked okay but they said they were going to put him down. I don't understand that part.
I live in a city where "help wanted" posters are everywhere but crime is still high. I don't understand that either.
What kind of jobs are those, OKIE? Can you make a living off of them? I don't know what your public assistance is like. Around here, the help wanted signs are for fast food restaurants and the like. I don't think most of those would support a family. People on public assistance soon learn that if they take one of those jobs, their benefits will be cut or eliminated. They make more money doing nothing than if they worked.
