Just how fast are some people driving
through the I-94 construction zone in Racine County? Over 100 miles per
hour in a couple of cases, the Racine County Sheriff's Office said
Monday.
From Friday through Sunday,
deputies ticketed more than 80 people for driving faster than 80 mph
through the 60 mph work zone, according to a news release from the
Racine County Sheriff's Office.
The office deployed
extra squads along Interstate 94 in an effort to increase safety
through the construction zone, the news release said.
Deputies
caught 77 people driving between 80 and 89 mph, two driving between 95
and 99 mph and two driving more than 100 mph, the release said.
The construction zone has been the site of numerous accidents this summer, including a fiery semi crash June 19 that killed two people and injured three others, closing the interstate for the day and most of the night.
