Milwaukeeans are hoping for a big payday
from the Democratic National Convention in 2020 by renting out their
homes to attendees, journalists and support staff.
More
than 350 properties are available on short-term rental site Airbnb in
the Milwaukee area during that week next July. And many are trying to
make a lot.
One host on the platform is advertising a condo on Old World Third Street — close to the epicenter of the event at Fiserv Forum — for $7,000 a night.
That's
astronomically higher than what is normally charged for the five-star
rated condo that sleeps 11 guests in two bedrooms with two bathrooms. To
rent the property in June of 2020, it's listed for $351 a night.
To
be sure, the short-term rentals will be needed to house some of the
50,000 people who will come to the city for the convention July 13 to
16, 2020. Housing assignments for the state delegations were announced last month with 2,926 hotel rooms in Wisconsin and 2,841 hotel rooms in Illinois.

Gee, only $7,000 a night. What a deal.
