Menomonee Falls residents have expressed outrage over Village Trustee Steve Taggart's Facebook posts relating to the Black Lives Matter rally that was held June 6.
On June 5, Taggart called the leadership of the School District of Menomonee Falls "radical communists" for their perceived role in the rally on the Menomonee Falls Republicans Facebook page.
In his second post that same week — on a Menomonee Falls community Facebook page — he said the gunshots a Facebook user heard was the police department practicing for the Black Lives Matter rally that upcoming Saturday, June 6.
Since then, Village President Dave Glasgow said he received more than 50 messages from concerned residents.
"The overwhelming majority of emails are demanding that he resign immediately, and not just for the shooting comment but for calling the school district radical communists," Glasgow said. "I haven’t seen this much anger in a while."
Taggart said he thought only 20 people would see his post on a Menomonee Falls Republicans page. A private page with that name has 139 members and a public page with the same name has 558 followers. He said his post was meant for a small group of friends.
Instead, the post spread like wildfire.
"The worst things have been sent to me in the last couple of days," he said. "I have been responding to the comments."
